Acute Care

Grace Hospital Emergency Department

When visits to the Grace Hospital's Emergency Department (ED) increased by 18% in one year, the Province of Manitoba recognized the need for a new, modernized emergency department to improve patient experience and flow.

Patient-centered design and Lean healthcare concepts inform the design of the ED and SCU interior. Glazing at med rooms and exam rooms keep patients visible from work zones. Standardized exam rooms allow for a streamlined patient flow process as there is no need to wait for a specialized room. The layout of the unit itself mimics an ICU environment with exam, observation, and trauma rooms fanned around the central nurses' desk. The design responds to the need for a welcoming, accessible, and operationally efficient facility.

Privileged to have been selected to design and oversee the construction of the full service acute care hospital for the community of Swan River. A hub to its surrounding community. Evolving from the need to replace a facility that was no longer safe, the project did exactly that. Evolve.
